Egg donation is an increasingly necessary option and may be one that you should consider. If you are unable to produce eggs, the only way you may be able to fall pregnant and carry a child yourself is by using donated eggs.

Together with the Cape Fertility Clinic, Fertility Travel works very closely with a leading egg donor agency, Gift ov life, who is accredited with SASREG, the Southern African Society for Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecological Endoscopy.

Gift ov life specializes in matching you to your ideal egg donor who will work closely with your fertility clinic in Cape Town.

Fertility Travel is available to answer any questions you may have about the egg donor process and help you find your ideal donor.

Who needs egg donation?

Women who are not producing eggs due to an inherited condition, surgery, chemotherapy, ovarian disease or early menopause.

This is also an option for woman over 40 whose eggs are declining with age and who also are at risk of passing on a genetic disorder to their children.

What is the egg donation process?

The donor has to go through the IVF cycle as far as egg collection. The donated eggs are then fertilized by your partner’s sperm and the embryo is transferred to your uterus.

The success rates with egg donation are higher than with routine IVF as the eggs are all from women between the ages of 20-35. The Cape Fertility Clinic have a policy not to treat woman with egg donation over the age of 50.

Legally in South Africa egg donors are anonymous. Many couples come to South Africa for their treatment as in other countries the donor can be traced. South Africa is therefore one of the most sought after destinations for egg donation IVF.

The Cape Fertility Clinic in Cape Town prides themselves on excellent medical standards and pregnancy success rates, putting themselves amongst the highest in the world.

I want to go ahead with this process, what do I do next?

  • Fertility Travel will (along with your flights, accommodation, doctors booking and holiday) put you in touch with Gift ov life, the egg donor agency we so highly recommend.  They will require you to complete specific information questionnaires so as to inform them of exactly what your egg donor’s physical and characteristics are. This will include age, physical appearance (eye color, hair color, height, weight, hair type and complexion), education/career, medical and family history, blood type, hobbies and personality/personal interests.
  • Fertility Travel will also make an appointment at the Cape Fertility Clinic to see one of the fertility specialists that we so highly recommend. We will email you their information including:

  2. Your Medication
  3. Medical Questionnaire

We will give you the name and email details of the Cape Fertility Clinic’s Egg Donation coordinator as you will be liaising with them throughout the entire process. They will also schedule an appointment  with your chosen donor for her first visit to discuss her initial tests.

  • Your donor IVF cycle will start when you have decided on a donor.

You will need to be in Cape Town for a minimum of 12 days. Your fertility doctor will discuss with you the timing for both you and the donor.
